Posts: 3 Jun 1, 2009 07:16:20 Littermate	Tags : kittens, cats, aggression, behavior, fighting I love animals and have rescued a a lot, both cats and dogs. I make sure they are fed, loved, have a home and health care. I currently have 11 cats, and 7 dogs at my home. Two of the cats are senior citizens (but do not tell them that) and I have just tecently made them stay in the house ( they prefer the outdoors). All my cats have had shots, are on preventatives and go to the vet on a regular for check ups. However the vet is even having issues with this problem. Since I have brought the two older cats who are 12 (mama kitties) and 13 (ebony) years old, one of my younger cats 11 months (sweet-tart) has begun to live up to his name. You would swear the cat was bi-polar. Sweet-tart at first acted fearful and I did a slow introduction over a course of two weeks, since i was re-introducing the older cats to the indoors. He seemed fine after the two week period. However, out of the blue about three days after i let the cats start roaming the house freely, he went crazy and attack mama kitties out of no where. It happened in front of me with no provocation. I put the two older cats back in their own room, and ever since he tries his hardest to get in the room, but he will be so sweet and nice, purr and he even likes to lick to people 9 which is kind of odd), but as soon as he see an open spot to get in that room he will make a b-line straight for mamas and if he cant see her he goes for ebony and just lays in to them. He is only like this with them. He is fix as well, which is another reason i am issues figuring out his aggressive behavior. I also have two other male cats that are 18 months old, they are brothers, taquito and CB. I have to keep the seperate at all times as well, they are both fixed but it happend late, they were spraying but it has since stopped, however they are still really aggressive towards each other ( no other cats male or female). The have a tendancy to re-direct thier aggression to the closest thing to them when they want to get at eachother, to include me, pillows, carpets, clothes, and bags ( it is crazy). Will sweet-tart ever calm down and give my old ladies any peace, and will taquito and CB ever be able to tolerate eachother like they did as kittens? I'm sorry to hear that you're having a bit of a difficult situation on your hands with SweetTart. Once a male has been neutered, he may still mount or show "sexual" aggression toward spayed females, neutered males, inanimate objects, etc. Please note, though, it is NOT sexual - it's dominance (particularly if he just assumes the mounting position and holds the under cat by the neck). This type of aggressive behavior is quite common in male kittens and young male cats. However, some neutered male (and spayed female) cats and dogs may show, to some degree, this type of dominance throughout their lives. I wouldn't be concerned about this type of behavior in a male unless he has medical problems and/or if he's biting and breaking the skin on the females. From what you're describing sounds, IMO, like SweetTart is just full of typical kitten energy. Try having some interactive time with him and the girls in the evenings, about 30-45 minutes before you retire to bed. Grab a wand-type toy and let all play with it in one play session (make sure that you let each cat occasionally "catch the prey" so that no one cat will get frustrated and tire of the playtime too quickly). Let them play hard and then simply go to bed. They'll jockey for sleeping positions and will probably sleep the entire time you are in bed because they will be worn out from their play. If all goes well, then I would certainly let him play hard each evening - just 15 minutes of your time will be needed. I honestly believe that the girls and he will get along fine. As for his aggression overall, I firmly believe that it may be more of a play thing for him than aggression. Some cats just play harder than others. Don't intervene - they can handle their play spats amongst themselves. Posts: 3 Jun 2, 2009 15:58:00 Littermate	Sweet tart plays great with all the other cats including the two older male brothers. However when it comes to my two older females, it is not playing hard. He sits in wait for someone to open the door to that room and leave an opening for him. He will run and target the first one of them he see's and in "full fluff" with a ridge down his back a tail two times it's normal size he will attack. He rushes them and attacks. leaving bad wounds sometimes. I had to take mama kitties to the vet to have an absess lanced and cleaned, and to get her medication for it. It was bad. It is to the point that if anyone opens that dor she (mama kitties) will run and try to hide. The room I have them in has a vent on the bottom of the door that way they could smell and see each other, hopefully getting used to each other. It does not seem to be working. As for letting the brothers go ahead and do what they need to do with out interfering i figured that I needed to just let them do that. However i am very scared to let Sweet tart near the older fmelaes. One more thing is that since Sweet tart has started his assault on them some of the other cats have began to follow in his foots steps, with their aggression towards the two females. It makes me so sad that as old as they are they can not just sit their and enjoy themselves. I let them outside and tom cat from next door attacks them. I let them inside and the cats in here attack them. I just wish everyone could be happy. (wishful thinking )

Posts: 5110 Jun 7, 2009 03:41:41 FF&F Staff Administrator Jo Down Under in Ozland	You know I think your sweet tart needs to grow up ,until then just give your senior ladies a quite room to them selves,I think if you let thing go on right now it will stay that way,if you have a few months of apart time from the ladies he well may have matured and not be bothered.He is just being a teenager and many seniors citizens can only handle some much at once.
