Posts: 1209 Feb 12, 2008 19:31:59 Critter Companion Human in Training	Tags : cats, stray We had a male kitty, still in tact, meowing to the maximum, at our door. I let him in the garage, and gave him food, water, and litter box, and he is NOT quieting down. Any suggestions? I CAN'T take on another animal right now. I just can't. I hate to let it go w/o getting it fixed, but don't feel like having it spray up my garage. I also gave it a box with a blanket for the night. He seems to be young, but I am no expert at this, and he is rail thin. He gobbled down his food, while crying and almost choked. When I say gobbled, I mean attacked. Any suggestions as to why it is crying so loudly, and so much? Any other worries I need to be concerned with? My main worry is any diseases they may carry, that can be brought from me to my own cat. See if you have any local free-fix programs, or ask the rescue group who helped you with Rumely. If it makes you feel better, you could also ask for an Felv/FIV combo test... that'd tell you the answer to the two major communicable cat diseases. However, your cat is not at risk for those unless they were having very close physical contact, like fighting with deep bite wounds. He's hungry, which means he doesn't have an established feeding area in the vicinity. This could because he is dumped or his feeder/owner isn't currently feeding him/moved away/on vacation/etc. I assume he's tame... My best suggestion would be to move quickly on the neuter and continue feeding the cat outside your house. You can set up a dog house or some kind of structure that isn't going to be damaged by spray. Then you can take some time working on asking rescue groups for help. He'll be happy to have a steady supply of food and some shelter in the meantime. Good luck, keep us updated!

Posts: 4346 Feb 12, 2008 20:53:34 FF&F Staff Administrator Upside Down and Backwards In Ozland	Why he is crying can be a few things Susan,one he could beside him self with hunger,severe hunger makes us all a tad crazy,two he is intact,kitty outside have a world unlike inside kittys,by that they are interacting ,by voice,fighting,mating and posturing all the time,it is a harsh world that means the kitty has to be on alert at all times,especailly if he is new to the area and on others turf.Disease is a worry and until tested he must be kept apart from you girl.

Posts: 1209 Feb 12, 2008 21:04:23 Critter Companion Human in Training	I plan to keep him in for tonight, and go from her tomorrow. I found the information for the clinic that did Rumely's surgery. I will call tomorrow, and see what I can do. Yes..he is so very friendly..he curled right up in my lap,purred,licked my hand and my chin, and just ate it up. With the possibility of me going back to work, I just can't take on the kitty in my home, but I can do what you said, and give him a constant home out doors. I can make a pretty comfy home out side in a corner thatis blocked from the wind and elements. If i was to guess...he's a year old at best. Big boy though. beautiful too. Not declawed. I'll have time tomorrow to get pics. unless I can get him in to get him nuetered. I feel this is a test, as I have been asking for help of a divine intervention, and in return I would help the unfortunate to the best of my ability, and here this pretty kitty shows up begging to be helped. I can't turn my back. I know you all must think I have lost it, but I just have to help. I will keep you posted. Thanks!

If you can later find him an indoor home, great. In the meantime, just give him those bits of comfort and he'll be much better off.

Check with Rumley's babies' HS - while you have them on the phone, ask them if they know about any other org's which offer spay/neuter vouchers, or of any vets in town who offer discounts on spay/neuter for rescuers. And yes, you're a rescuer if you've already saved - what, seven or eight cats and kittens? Perhaps you can see if the HS will take him if you offer to foster him. Have you thought about that? Suggest that you'll provide a foster home for him if they will take on his vet bills for vacs and neutering. In the meantime, keep him as warm and comfortable as you can. He's found a food source during this cold weather, so he'll probably stick around until you can make arrangements for his betterment. Wadda a wonderful Valentine his is! Bless you for taking in this little boy, Susan! I'm sure that you and he will both be rewarded handsomely for all your trouble and worry!

He's going to be here for a week. Paul is going to love this one After that, we will have to figure something out. I will start calling agencies today. If no one can take him, then he will be an outdoor cat, and just be fed here.

I spilled it trying to get it out the door last night, and not let him in, which he wants very badly, and not let Rumely out, which she seems more curious than a must have type attitude Anyways..here are the pictures I took this morning as he inhaled his breakfast! Ok, let me just throw out some food for thought here: Since he's using his litter box, obviously not used to being outside in that frigid cold and snow (probably dumped by someone or left behind), and since Rumely is "curious" maybe he could be a friend/companion to her when you do go back to work?? Often cats react better to being left all day when they have some company. Once he's neutered and no longer smelly, you could try a very slow introduction in the time before you get the job. Just a thought. That divine intervention is working here....think carefully about the whole situation....there is a reason he chose you!!! Happy early Valentine's day!!!

He crawled right up in my lap, and crawled up my chest to my neck, licked my chin, and purred the entire time. I just can't take this on right now with going back to work. If i had more time to work with him, and have him learn my rules, then i wouldn't hesitate. When I did say Rumely was curious, she did make it known that she was the queen bee here though. She hissed,when he didn't flinch, she growled He again didn't seem to care. This was all through the glass part of the door that leads from the house to the garage.

She will either put him in his place or ignore him as if he were invisible once he's neutered and no longer smells so strongly. Sounds like he was a housecat before he found you and he might just already know the rules. You could consider giving him a chance to show you....he might just surprise you!!!

He said "because i know you want him,and you were talking about getting a playmate for Rumely before he showed up." Which I had at different times. Why did he have to offer to let me keep him, as that is making things so much harder on me now. Geez....men!

Posts: 1209 Feb 14, 2008 18:12:24 Critter Companion Human in Training	He went into the vets today. He is 10 lbs, and very thin, lanky, and all muscle they said. He is a big boy!!! He is Lukemia free. He has no fleas, and was such a good boy. They estimate him to be about 1-2 yrs. of age. He is such a lover, and so relaxed. He fell asleep in my arms while waiting for the test results. He got several vaccines, and dewormed. So...he is all ready for his snipping on Monday a.m. He is also all ready IF we decide to keep him. Paul is almost talking me into it. I am unsure with me needing a job. and the $$ issue itself. Oh well...he is healthy. Oh and they said his teeth were perfect! How he could be an outside cat :dunno . He is so cute just sitting in his box in the garage. I am heading out to feed/water him, and try to play with him...haven't tried that yet. My only thought right now is Storm. I can tell Paul will not want this big boy named Valentine. Storm might sound a tad more manly
