Finally after two years of the animal cruelty laws being struck down to be tougher going from a misdemeanor crime to a felony crime it looks like Utah is
finally going to get tougher on this. If the legislature wouldnt have ran out of time in session, "Henry's Law" (named for a dog tortured by his
owner's ex-husband) may finally pass in January 2008 session where they said that they would look at it more closely. It had passed the Senate but the
House ran out of time with it. Its not that hard to decided whether or not to pass laws especially after the survey done saying that Utah had the weakest laws
in the US along with 5 other states. A man is only going to get charged with a misdemeanor for shooting a helpless 7 lb Pomeranian in front of his owner and
then pointing the gun at his owner afterwards. My husband, who used to work for one of the news stations here in Salt Lake City, said that there is no reason
why in the last two years that it shouldnt have passed. I actually wrote for my writing class a persuasive paper about this animal cruelty.
What is everyone's view on this? Do you think ever state should have felony convictions for animal cruelty?
