I'm on my new computer and haven't added all my old bookmarks, Anna. As soon as I can crank up my old computer, I'll post a great link on the characteristics of the tabby cat. But black and gray tabby kittens often appear very gray until they reach a year to a year and a half in age. Then some of the gray changes to brown, which means that they have that remarkable brown tabby gene. I dearly love all tabbies, but the brown tabby has such a beautifully variable coat - in a single cat colors can consist of a yellow-tawny background with a black outlined pattern, mahogony-red tones in the center of swirls or stripes, and a white or cream belly with black spotting or swirls or stripes. Brown tabbies truly sport a coat of beauty.
