Posts: 1214 Feb 16, 2008 11:33:21 Critter Companion Human in Training	Tags : cats, burps, stomach gas The rescue cat is doing well, but has really bad gas, and burps alot. The vet thought it might just be the change in diet, as he was probably eating a very poor diet, and is now on a regular feeding schedule, and proper food diet. Does that sound reasonable? She also said his belly felt bloated from gas,a nd squeeszed it a bit, and sure enough he passed gas,a nd burped at the same time. He still inhales his food, and I hope that eases up, when he realizes there will be another bowl full the next day. Any other ideas if that is not it, as he is really a gassy big fellow right now...silent is deadly

Also, you've mentioned in previous posts that he's gulping down his food. When air is intaken while eating, this can cause gas and burps, as well. At this point I wouldn't worry about it. Give him a few weeks to become accustomed to regular feeding and his eating habits (gulping) will probably become normal. When you took him to the vet, he was worm-free, correct? IOW, his fecal exam was ok?

And they can do it, too; don't let them tell you otherwise. There's no way I can figure whose stool is whose with 51 cats, so my vets take a rectal swab when I bring the cat or kitten in (our dogs, too). It only takes a teeny amount of fecal matter to do the test, anyway.

Posts: 1214 Feb 18, 2008 08:10:58 Critter Companion Human in Training	He is still inhaling his food, and gulping as he eats. He is not as gassy as before, but still has the burps. He really is takign in alot of air when he eats. I hope as time goes on, he will slow down. He has been on a roller coaster lately. Back and forth to the vets,a nd all of a sudden in a garage instead of roaming freely. Now surgery,a nd a new room to adjust too. Poor guy..he is taking it all in stride though. I pick him up today after 2:00. I am washing his bedding now, and am going to get his new quarters ready for his post surgery recovery I'll update here when he gets back home.
