Posts: 23 Jan 28, 2008 09:39:02 Littermate	Oooh, what a handsome cat I've got. I was waiting until I had a few pictures to post before I gave an update, so here you are. Klaus is starting to take some risks, which is nice to see. He's expanded his territory to include our bedroom and most especially our bed. He's even gotten to the point where, if we lie down when he's already under the covers, he won't run away. Klaus and I even shared an hour-long nap recently -- my SO was totally surprised to find us together! He'll also hang out on top of the piano and in the sofa chair (a major improvement from UNDER the sofa chair) and doesn't hide immediately when I walk into the room. Kitten steps, people, kitten steps. We were lucky to have a friend as a petsitter while we were away last week who was willing to spend some time continuing our efforts to help Klaus get acclimated. I'm trying to get over MY skittishness, which is hard. When Klaus hisses or swats my SO just leans down and scoops him up and within a few seconds he's pretty relaxed. A couple of minutes and he ends up with what you see in the last picture I posted. They are too cute together. I have a hard time not flinching and getting intimidated by the little guy, but I'm working on it. The other really good thing is that we've had, thus far, no major demonstration of kitty politics. We've got a couple of theories on the matter, including that Silas' senses are just so diminished due to his old age that he doesn't even really know Klaus is around (they can literally be in the same room and Silas seems not to notice), or that Silas thinks Klaus is just so weird he doesn't want to bother bullying him. Or maybe it's the heavy haze of Feliway that's permeated our household! Please enjoy the pictures. We're looking forward to seeing Klaus walking proud and tall... maybe six months? I truly don't believe he's removed his tail from his legs since he's arrived... I'm so glad we gave him a chance to find out what it's like to be loved. Taking these pictures yesterday made me think about that he could turn out to be a real lover someday. Just look at that face! Edited to add resized photos --thanks Suse! Don't feel too bad about the technology thing..it's gets me everytime I totally understand..trust me I apologize, as I can't remember , and can't locate where you said what breed of cat Klaus was? Posts: 23 Jan 28, 2008 18:30:18 Littermate	They're unusual both in looks and personality, though in all honesty Klaus is still far from acting like a typical, playful Rex. My recent attempt to play with him with one of those interactive feather-on-a-stick toys was an exercise in terror for him. From the way he reacted I may as well have been dangling a foaming at the mouth Doberman from that stick. We're starting slow with the cuddles, and as an aficionado of the breed I'm holding out hope for the playful Cornish Rex antics later on. There's just no way to describe how that coat he's got feels though, it's like a cross between a rabbit's coat and velvet!

Kitten steps is the key in introducing a cat, especially one who has been traumatized as much as little Klaus has been in such a short time. He has as much adjusting to do, if not more, as y'all do. Oh, I'm sure the Feliway has much to do with Silas' behavior. He's been the resident cat and the Feliway is helping him adjust to the strange goings on in his household. He and Silas may never become best buddies, but I know that they will live in harmony together. This stuff is truly a miracle product in assisting cats make a change over in their lives. I can't recommend it enough. Just remember that cats can sense our uncomfortableness and pick up on our stress. So very few people realize that when bringing in a new family member. I'm so happy to know that you do. At the rate you and your SO are going, I guarantee Klaus will be thinking your home is his in far less than six months. Animals know when they have it good and he'll come around probably much faster than you're anticipating. Just keep working on those kitten steps. I'm just too thrilled to hear about the progress he's already made under your care. My hat's off to you! It was a pleasure to resize his pictures. You're most welcome! If you need more done in the future, just send them on to me; I'll take care of them and send them right back to you resized.

Just keep proving to him that this is his forever home and someday he'll relax Also great that Feliway (or something) is working on Silas. I bought a plug-in for our sprayer Boris back when he was still a big ol' boy (he's now in advanced kidney failure and not up to his old tricks anymore, though all the good parts are still there)... guess how he reacted? He sniffed it, turned around, and sprayed on it Anyway, thank you for taking this boy in... his happy ending!
